Surrey minibus trips: border days, Fraser Valley and the ferry

Surrey sits between Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and the US border, which makes it a natural starting point for day trips in every direction. With a minibus and driver, your group travels together wherever you head.

Two crossings into Washington

Surrey has two ways into Washington, and they sit barely 1.6 km from each other: the Peace Arch crossing on the Highway 99 and I-5 route, and the Pacific Highway crossing on Highway 15. Commercial traffic gets sent to Pacific Highway, which is why the operator checks the right crossing for your charter before the day.

Bellingham is about 45 minutes away and Seattle about two and a half hours, both plus border time. Every traveller needs documents both countries accept; check them the evening before.

Meeting flights at YVR

From Surrey City Centre to YVR is roughly 35 km, 40 minutes or so. Curbside pickup there is for permit-holding commercial operators only, and every pre-arranged trip has to be logged with the airport beforehand. Your driver can meet you in Arrivals or send the bay number in advance. Abbotsford International, about 45 km east, can be simpler for Fraser Valley plans.

Valley and mountain outings

Fort Langley is about 25 minutes away and Harrison Hot Springs about an hour and a quarter. Whistler, up the Sea to Sky Highway, takes two hours or a little more. That road is a signed winter-tire route from October 1 to March 31, and the operator makes sure the vehicle is ready for it.

Closer to home

Crescent Beach on Boundary Bay, Bear Creek Park with its miniature train and the Museum of Surrey in Cloverdale all make easy family outings. The Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair next runs May 20 to 24, 2027. For a celebration, up to 150 guests can gather on the Civic Hotel's rooftop deck, 22 floors up, and Aria Convention Centre has private parking.

Getting to the city is easier than it was: nobody has paid a toll on the Port Mann since 2017, and since February 14, 2026, the new Riverview Bridge has been fully open between Surrey and New Westminster.

Your questions

Can we do Victoria as a day trip from Surrey?

It's a long day. Tsawwassen is about 35 minutes away and the sailing to Swartz Bay takes about 1 h 35 min. A vehicle licensed for 16 or more passengers is booked through BC Ferries' commercial or group service.

Which crossing will we use into the US?

The operator confirms it beforehand. Commercial vehicles are sent to Pacific Highway, so don't count on Peace Arch.

How far is Whistler?

About 150 km, two to two and a quarter hours on the Sea to Sky.
