A driver waiting when you land in Winnipeg
Winnipeg Richardson is close to the centre, and its pickup routine is short: booked vehicles pull in to the commercial curb, collect you and move on without lingering.
The commercial curb
Booked transport collects arriving passengers from the commercial curb, down on Arrivals Level 1. Licensed vehicles run on a transponder, and time spent on that curb adds dwell charges, so the driver pulls in when you're ready rather than sitting there for an hour.
The terminal frontage is no place to park, wait or walk away from a vehicle; private cars meeting flights use a free Cell Phone Lot east of the building on Wellington Avenue. For your group, the upshot is simple: call from baggage claim, then walk out to the curb.

The terminals
- Single passenger terminal
Good to know at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport
- Accessible pick-up spots are along the median on Arrivals Level 1 and at the curb on Departures Level 2.
- Parking, waiting or leaving a vehicle unattended in front of the terminal is prohibited; a free Cell Phone Lot is east of the terminal on Wellington Avenue.
- Licensed operators pay a per-pick-up fee by vehicle size, with the largest class covering vehicles of 25 to 100 seats.
- Anyone providing transportation services at, to or from the airport must first obtain an annual ground transportation licence from Winnipeg Airports Authority, which permits pre-arranged service only.
Book it before the trip
Winnipeg Airports Authority licenses every transport provider at the airport year by year, and the licence is for pre-arranged work only. Vehicles are classed by size, up to a class for 25 to 100 seats. In other words, nothing gets flagged down on the day; your ride is arranged in advance.
Twenty minutes to Portage and Main
The airport is about 9 km from downtown in a straight line and about 12 km by road to Portage and Main, around 20 minutes in light traffic. The Forks and the Exchange District are near the downtown hotels, and the Polo Park hotels are closer still to the airport.
Visiting the Canadian Museum for Human Rights on day one? Your group gets off at the museum's Group Entrance on Israel Asper Way (number 85), and the vehicle parks elsewhere, returning to the set-down zone 15 minutes before your program ends. The Forks allows pickups and drop-offs but has no bus parking.
Your questions
Is there an accessible pickup spot?
Yes. On Arrivals Level 1, accessible pick-up spots line the median; upstairs on Departures Level 2 they're right at the curb. Tell us about mobility needs when you ask for a quote so a suitable vehicle can be found.
Which day trips suit a family or a club?
Lower Fort Garry is about 30 km away, roughly half an hour. Gimli on Lake Winnipeg and Grand Beach are each about 90 km, around an hour, and lovely in summer.
Can we take a day trip into the United States?
Trips south follow Highway 75 to the Emerson crossing. Adults with Canadian citizenship show a passport, a NEXUS card or an enhanced driver's licence. Kids under 16, and under-19s travelling with a school or youth group, just need proof they're citizens, such as a birth certificate.
