Your Own Day Trip, at Your Own Pace

Choose the stops, the lunch spot and how long to linger. A private minibus turns a day trip into your group's own itinerary, with a driver minding the road while you watch the scenery.

Favourite runs from the cities

From Toronto, Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake are each about an hour and a half away, so wineries in the morning and the falls after lunch fit into one day. Halifax groups head for Peggy's Cove, 45 minutes to an hour out, and can loop on to Mahone Bay or Lunenburg. From Quebec City, Montmorency Falls and Île d'Orléans are both within about 20 minutes.

Days in the Rockies

Moraine Lake Road is closed to personal vehicles all year. From June to mid-October it opens to Parks Canada shuttles and approved commercial vehicles, and the operator needs a Moraine Lake Road Licence of Occupation, applied for early in the year (applications for 2026 closed on 30 April). If Moraine Lake is on your wish list, say so when you first get in touch.

At the Lake Louise lakeshore, when the commercial lot is full, the vehicle can drop your group off for up to 10 minutes but must then leave until pickup time. Throughout the park, parking goes to whoever arrives first, and stopping on the road shoulder is illegal, so meeting times matter.

Rules worth knowing

  • Commercial operators need a Moraine Lake Road Licence of Occupation; in 2026, applications closed April 30
  • On Highway 407 ETR, every vehicle over 5,000 kg, including buses, must carry a valid transponder by law

Pacing a long day

Rather than squeezing in every sight, pick two or three and give each enough time. Parking at Peggy's Cove can be limited from late morning to mid-afternoon (11:00 to 15:00), so arriving before then helps.

Heading from Banff to Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park, about an hour away across the BC line? Once a day crosses a provincial border, federal limits apply: a driver may not exceed 13 hours of driving or 14 hours on duty in the day. Trips that stay within one province follow provincial rules, and the operator plans around them.

Your questions

Will the driver point out the sights?

The booking covers a vehicle and a driver, not a guided tour. If you want a guide, ask; on Niagara Parks property, conducting tours needs a Niagara Parks Guide Licence.

Can we change the plan on the day?

Small changes usually work if the route and the driver's hours allow. Bigger ones are easier to agree before you set off.

How many of us can go?

A Sprinter-style van typically seats 17 to 19 and a minibus around 16 to 19. Larger groups move up to a midi or full-size coach.
