A Port Day in Victoria, Planned Around Your Ship

Ogden Point sits just 2.4 km from Victoria's city centre, so even a short call leaves time to explore. With a driver waiting and a plan agreed before you dock, a few hours can cover gardens, harbour and history.

Why this booking is made ahead

The terminal belongs to the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority, which keeps a close eye on who collects passengers. Every pickup vehicle needs a terminal decal, insurance and a BC passenger transportation licence, and under the terminal's user guide, buses other than permitted shore-excursion buses and pre-arranged independent tours are kept off the site.

Pre-arranged is the key word for you. The driver carries an electronic receipt or manifest with the name on the booking, the pickup point and your party size, so send those early. The guide dates from 2022, and the operator confirms the current rules before your call.

Where the hours go

The Butchart Gardens are about 22 km north at Brentwood Bay, roughly half an hour each way. Coaches can park on site, and the gardens' group services department takes tour-group bookings in advance. A couple of hours there makes a lovely port day on its own.

Staying near the water? The Royal BC Museum and the Parliament Buildings sit side by side on Belleville Street, facing the Inner Harbour. There's no visitor parking on the legislature grounds, so your driver lets you off nearby and collects you at an agreed spot. Fan Tan Alley in Canada's oldest Chinatown rounds out a town loop.

Keeping to the ship's clock

Work backwards from your all-aboard time, leave a margin for harbour traffic, and make the last stop the one nearest Ogden Point. A contracted shuttle also runs between the terminal and downtown on ship days, handy if someone wants to wander alone.

Your questions

When does the cruise season run?

In 2026 the first call came on 10 April and the last is due on 18 October, with about 335 calls expected in all. The 2027 calendar depends on the cruise lines.

Will the driver keep the engine running while we board?

Not for long. The terminal guide limits idling to three minutes in any 60, apart from air-brake safety or air conditioning above 24°C.

Can we get a wheelchair-accessible vehicle?

Tell us about wheelchair users or other mobility needs when you enquire, and the operator is asked for a suitable vehicle. The terminal guide itself asks that every shuttle bus be wheelchair accessible.

How far is the airport?

Victoria International sits at Sidney, a drive of about 28 to 30 km and 35 to 45 minutes from Ogden Point.
