Canada Place: Getting Your Party to the Ship
Most people sailing from Vancouver are bound for Alaska, and many travel as a family, a group of friends or a whole club. Book one vehicle and one driver, and your party and every suitcase stay together from the plane or hotel to the terminal.
Before you sail
Canada Place is a busy homeport, with three berths and room for up to four ships at once, and most calls fall between May and September. You also clear US Customs and Border Protection here before boarding. The bag drop usually opens between 10:00 and 10:30, local time.
Flying in on sailing day? YVR is about 15 km from the port, 25 to 45 minutes depending on traffic. Plenty of families land the day before, sleep near the waterfront and enjoy a short, unhurried ride in the morning.

How arriving at the terminal works
The way in for vehicles is a ramp off the foot of Howe Street, and there a port traffic attendant assigns each one a lane. Pickups inside the terminal use the orange zone on level P1, and if your party hasn't appeared yet, the driver has to pull out of the lane and sit in a parking stall until you do. Some vehicle types meet passengers at street level instead; the operator tells you which applies to yours.
So on the day you come off the ship, agree a meeting time and walk out together. A group that drifts off over forty minutes keeps the vehicle circling.

A day in the city first
Got a spare afternoon? Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is about 20 minutes away in North Vancouver, and Stanley Park, Granville Island and Gastown are close to downtown. Stanley Park asks buses that park there to hold a pass, and the operator checks whether yours needs one.
Your questions
How early should we leave the hotel on sailing day?
It depends on your boarding time and where you're staying. From downtown the ride is short; from the airport, allow 25 to 45 minutes. With bag drop opening mid-morning, an early start rarely gains you much.
Is the cruise season still running this year?
Only just. The final ship of 2026 leaves on 13 October, closing a year in which nearly 360 calls were expected. For next year, plan around the usual May-to-September Alaska season.
We're a big family. Will a Sprinter do?
A Sprinter seats about 17 to 19, but cruise luggage fills its rear space fast. A midi coach with underfloor bays, or a second vehicle, often fits better. Send the headcount and the bag count and the quote reflects both.
